J'ai entre les mains le dernier numéro de Los Muestros que j'ai lu avec le même intérêt que je porte depuis
longtemps à cette revue courageuse. Celle-ci gagne de plus en plus d'importance...
Je serai de passage en Belgique au début de mois de septembre car je participe aux Biennales de la Poésie qui
se dérouleront à Liège. J'espère avoir alors l'occasion de vous voir, soit à Liège soit à Bruxelles, pour vous dire
dire de vive voix tout le bien que je pense de votre publication qui devrait être mieux connue, non seulement
dans l'univers francophone mais aussi en Israël.

...Neve Shalom and other books of R. Hazan are in the National and University Librairies in Jerusalem and
probably in other libraries in this country. My connection to
R.. Hazan is through my research on the Jews of Libya.
R. Hazan was the Hakham Bashi of Tripoli (chief Rabbi) from 1874 to 1888 (then he went to Alexandria.) and
was very important in the life of the community there.

Regarding the article which appeared in LM 30 "Testimony of four women from Rhodes"
...I was given your name and e-mail address by my good friend P.M. (of Athens). I read the testimony given by
Sara Benatar et al and was moved to tears. You see, my grandfather lost both parents and a sister in the ovens
at Aushwitz. Their names were Benzion & Diamonte Benatar and their daughter Regina.
I was wondering if any of those giving testimony are still alive and, if, so, if I could contact them. Maybe they
knew the above-mentioned victims. My grandfather has since died of natural causes and I do not know anyone
else who might have known them personally.

...I can't explain to what it does to me to read something like this. It is as if it is ME getting on the boat, eating
potato peels, etc. And when I think that my grandfather's sister, a mere teenager, and his parents, suffered in
this manner - well it is a bit more than I can bear.
I was always under the mistaken impression that the three of them died on the boat on the way to Aushwitz. For
some inexplicable reason I found comfort in this thought - like they cheated the Nazi's in some way.
The day I went to Yad VaShem and got a copy of the papers stating exactly where and how they died was a
black day for me. Michel translated that they died in the ovens and I just broke down.
Do you know if any of these people are still alive? Perhaps they knew Regina . . .

du miroitier Victor Taïeb (20ème siècle) (sa miroiterie se trouvait à la rue ses Serres, à

gaps in genealogical trees I have been working on for some time.
I am the son of Edward Victor Hyam SETTON, born in Cairo Egypt and Grazia SAVDIE. My paternal
grandfather is Moses SETTON born in Liverpool England August 20, 1879 married to Rachel SETTON, his
first cousin, daughter of Mose's brother Mordechai. Moses had the following siblings: Michael, Rachel, Ezra,
Annette, and Miriam (Minnie). Moses' father is Meyer SETTON bn 1831/32 d. London April 3,1885. Meyer
SETTON (his siblings are Joseph, Mordechai, Jacob and Ezekiel). Is the son of Ezra Abraham SETTON, d.
Aleppo, Syria 1856. Ezra's father is R Abraham SETTON, his grand father is Jacob SETTON, his great grand
father is Eliezer SETTON and his great-great-grand father is Jacob SETTON. Mordechai SETTON believed
to have had two sons who emigrated to the USA late last century or early this one, and worked in films.
On the SAVDIE side, my grand father was Eliahu Hyman SAVDIE (he changed his name in 1923 from
SAFDEAH), bn Manchester 1882, d. Cairo 1938; married to Alice HARARI. They had seven children:
Grazia (my mother, the eldest, decd), Joseph (decd), Felix (decd), Edgar, Fred, Clement (decd) and Odette.
Eliahu's parents were Joseph SAFDEAH and Garras Antebi. Eliahu had five sisters; Gamilla, Latifa, Lily,
Victoria, and Rachel and three half siblings when his father Joseph SAFDEAH remarried (to whom ??) :
Farida, Eugenie, and Moise.
