Une guerre implacable contre un ennemi commun à l'humanité tout entière : le terrorisme. Nous, Juifs, sommes doublement en guerre car nous sommes menacés par la terreur islamique et par le refus arabe de notre existence légitime. La pusillanimité de l'Occident, sa tiédeur par rapport à Israël, doivent également nous préoccuper.
Tous vous le diront : le monde a changé depuis le fatal 11 septembre 2001. L'Amérique, ce géant, a été frappé traîtreusement par un ennemi implacable, le fondamentalisme islamique. Ben Laden et ses acolytes ont atteint les deux piliers sur lesquels reposent le monde libre : la finance et la défense.
En attaquant les deux tours jumelles du World Trade Center et le Pentagone, les terroristes ont attaqué le monde.
En assassinant Rehavam Zeevi, Gandhi le FPLP, partie prenante et agissante du Fatah de Yasser Arafat, a réduit encore les chances d'arriver à une paix. A croire qu'il veut faire voler en éclat cette mince coalition que les Etats-Unis essaient de mettre difficilement sur pied.
Cela fait des années qu'Israël met en garde les démocraties contre les dangers du fondamentalisme musulman. En vain. Et même après ces attentats, il semble que la leçon n'ait pas porté ses fruits et que le monde n'ait pas compris.
L'Europe renoue avec ses vieux démons. On peut, impunément, crier "Mort aux Juifs, mort à Israël" dans les rues sans que nul ne s'en émeuve. La presse met ceci sur le compte de "quelques jeunes des banlieues défavorisées". Qu'est-ce que cela veut dire en clair ? La plupart de ces manifestants sont des jeunes issus de l'immigration, les mêmes que ceux qui ont sifflé La Marseillaise lors du match de football France Algérie, au State de France, en octobre 2001. Je voudrais voir ces mêmes jeunes, dans un pays arabe, siffler l'hymne national... Je voudrais voir ces manifestants qui à Hyde Park appelent à la destruction du monde occidental appeler à la haine des pays arabes en terre d'Islam. Bien entendu ce ne sont pas les mêmes formes de démocraties qui prévalent d'une rive ou de l'autre de la Méditerranée !
Israël ne sera pas sacrifié aux seuls intérêts occidentaux. Le peuple juif ne se laissera plus faire. Nous ne sommes plus en 1939. Nous sommes encore seuls - nous l'avons toujours été, mais la leçon a porté et nous l'avons comprise et cette fois-ci nous le savons. Am Israël haï.

We Jews are fighting on two fronts - against the threat of Islamic terrorism and the Arabs' refusal to recognise our legitimate existence. We should also be worrying about the West - pusillanimous and lukewarm towards Israel.

For years now Israel has been warning democracies about the dangers of Muslim fundamentalism - in vain. And even after the attacks it seems that the message has not got through and the world has not learned the lesson.
Europe is tangling again with old demons. One may cry with impunity "Death to the Jews, death to Israel" in the street and no-one bats an eyelid. The press blames a few "youths from deprived neighbourhoods". But who do they really mean? Most of these youths are the sons of immigrants. They are the same youths who booed the Marseillaise during the France-Algeria football match at France's national stadium in October 2001. I should like to see those self-same youths booing the national anthem in an Arab country. I should like to see those demonstrators in Hyde Park who call for the western world to be destroyed, venting their hatred against the Arab regimes under Islam. Of course the same type of democracy does not quite prevail on both sides of the Mediterranean.
